Summer activities and events
10 May 2021
Look out for a range of activities and events on campus and online this summer, starting at the end of May.
The programme will offer a mix of social, academic and employability opportunities.
In June there will be lots going on around Hallam Square, turning it into a social hub where you can reconnect with course mates.
We will be sharing the full calendar in the next few weeks, but you can get an idea of what's on below.
Careers, skills and employability
Many of you have asked for a focus on careers and employability support.
Careers Connect will reopen from 14 June on Tuesdays to Thursdays for 1:1 appointments. Postgraduate drop-in sessions, employability skills workshops and resilience sessions will start late June. All of this will be available on campus and online.
The Library and Skills Centre will be open over the summer on both campuses. It will offer on-site and online workshops, drop-ins, forums and blogs on a range of professional and academic skills.
Social events
We will be putting on an outdoor performance of Awakenings in late June. There will be plenty of opportunities to get involved, including acting, making puppets, and helping with ticket sales.
Your Students’ Union has started a series of events called Back to Your Future. Many of these are linked with the wider Sheffield community, including
- a visit Sharrow Vale Market,
- a musical theatre event
- self-guided trip packs for local attractions like Our Cow Molly
- volunteering opportunities
- a summer skills programme with a wellbeing focus
- opportunities to link up with student societies.
Sport and physical activity
You will still be able to book sport facilities over summer. We will also continue our online classes, walking routes and activity guides.
Hallam Cafe pilot
In June and July, we will be testing the new Hallam Cafe brand at Hallam Central. Please let us know what you think – you can get a 50% discount if you share your views with us.
Festivals, conferences and summer camps
Sheffield Doc/Fest, the city's documentary film festival, runs from 4 to 13 June. You can book online screenings and events now. The organisers hope to announce in-person events in May.
Hallam will also be running and hosting a number of events for postgraduate research students, including:
Course activities and workspaces
You will still be able to access workshops, studios and other specialist spaces over summer. Lots of our courses are running drop-in sessions, assessment workshops, guest lectures and social activities. Look out for updates from your course teams.
