GoGlobal Fund for PhD students

PhD students can receive GoGlobal funding once throughout their study in Sheffield Hallam University, to support international activity which is not an integral part of their PhD research. Students who have gone through the RF 2 stage can apply for GoGlobal funding to take part in international activities of at least 5 days duration such as:

  • study visits which establish new, or improve existing, international academic networks
  • professional and academic skills development projects - i.e. activities developing the skills needed by future international researchers
  • projects which lead to experience of research in different cultures and environments, or which contribute to an outreach event

You cannot get funding for:

  • conference attendance - other funding is generally available for this
  • fieldwork - this is normally funded as part of the PhD research programme

Applying for GoGlobal Funding

You should apply using the standard application form. You will be required to provide:

  • full details of your proposed activity abroad - dates, location, contact details, activity plan
  • a budget including all associated costs and funds secured so far in the Project Details Form
  • a personal statement outlining why you want to undertake the international experience evidencing the benefits to personal and professional development and the potential to develop new sustainable professional relationships

Your proposal should also contain:

  • a supporting statement from the intended host HEI/organisation
  • confirmation from your Director of Studies or Head of the Research Centre that alternative funding is not available, and that the proposed visit will support your development against the GoGlobal learning outcomes
