Frontiers of Chemical Research in Tarragona, Spain

The trip intends to provide you with experience of world-leading research in the chemical sciences, which aligns itself well with the module “Frontiers of Chemical Research” and also with those who are interested in a future career in the Chemical Sciences.
There will be a visit to the Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ) which is considered amongst the best research institutes in Europe. At this institute you will be shown the facilities and local researchers will provide short seminars on their specialism, using cutting edge research.
There will also be other activities related to the Tarragona area, a region that is a major hub for the chemical industry within Europe.
There is GoGlobal funding available for up to 9 students.
Who is eligible to apply?
Students who are enrolled on the “Frontiers of Chemical Research” module from the Department of Biosciences and Chemistry at Level 7, and Level 6 students from the Department of Biosciences and Chemistry.
Travel and accommodation
Accommodation will be shared rooms (this will be organised before the trip starts). You will be flying from Manchester Airport to Barcelona, with a train connection to Tarragona.
Visa & vaccinations
UK and EU nationals will not require a visa to travel to another EU country.
Non-EU nationals may require a visa to travel to Spain and are responsible for obtaining a Schengen visa. Please contact the International Experience Team if you require advice.

Estimated costs includes:
- Return flights from Manchester Airport to Barcelona
- Return train from Barcelona Airport to Tarragona station
- 4 nights' accommodation at Hotel SB express Tarragona
- Group meals during the trip
Once your individual application has been approved by the GoGlobal Fund panel, you will be required to pay a non-refundable student contribution by the following deadline:
- £100 to be paid by Tuesday 19 November 2019.

There is GoGlobal funding available for up to 9 students. Please read the GoGlobal Fund Guidance carefully and note that you are only permitted one GoGlobal grant per academic year.
