Megan Snape, BSc (Honours) Sport Business Management
Chairwoman and Student Sport Activator coordinator for boxing
Student Sport Activators promote non-competitive sport, so it's just for fun – no commitment, no special ability, just try a new sport.
I'm very heavily involved in sports but I know many activators who describe themselves as not sports-orientated – they purely run the sessions for a laugh and to meet new people. That's what it's all about, being friendly and helping people who don't really like competitive sport.
Since doing all these voluntary roles my confidence has soared. When I first had to address the boxing class I was shaking – now its second nature. People now recognise me as their coach and I feel a lot more influential over the programmes the university runs.
Through this I've been funded to take various coaching-related courses, which look amazing on my CV, and I've now been offered a number of paid roles.
