Sheffield Hallam University City Athletics Stadium on Woodbourn Road is the home to outdoor athletics for Sheffield and the surrounding areas. It includes a range of outdoor activities and is open to the community for athletics and events.
The site offers
- an eight lane running track with a ten lane front and back straight
- pole vault (March - September) and high jump areas
- long jump and triple jump track and pits
- throws field for shot, discuss, javelin and hammer plus practice throws area for discuss, shot and hammer.
- on-site changing rooms, pavilion and spectator seating
Sessions must be pre-booked and are available at the following times:
|Tuesday||4.45 - 6pm, 6:15 - 7:30pm & 7:45 - 9pm|
|Wednesday||5 - 6:30pm & 6:45 - 8:15pm|
|Thursday||4:45 - 6pm, 6:15 - 7:30pm & 7:45 - 9pm
|Saturday||9:30 - 11am & 11:15 - 12:45pm|
These times are subject to change due to private bookings which will be detailed on site. Use of the site outside of these hours is prohibited, and anyone doing so may be asked to leave.
All visitors are required to sign in with a member of Sheffield Hallam Active Staff. You will be issued with a wristband which must be worn at all times.

The stadium is located on the tram line about half way between the city centre and Meadowhall with a number of bus routes also serving the site. There is limited on-site parking for events in addition to large amounts of on-street parking in the surrounding area.
Sheffield Hallam University City Athletics Stadium has been designed and developed to enable athletes of all abilities to participate, improve and enjoy athletics. To ensure that all users are able to safely and effectively utilise the track, the following track etiquette and guidance has been implemented. It is intended as a guide on the behaviour and conducts which athletes and coaches should adhere to at all times but in particular on busy sessions.
OBSERVE, DISCUSS, CO-OPERATE AND TRAIN.
It is the club members/coaches and athletes responsibility when arriving at the track area to OBSERVE what other track users are doing. DISCUSS with them their usage and CO-OPERATE with them to ensure agreed usage before commencing the session.
The track is for the benefit of all coaches and athletes and it is expected that through working closely with the on-site team these guidelines will ensure that the track is maintained and enjoyed by everyone.
- In order to gain use of the athletics facilities, all athletes and coaches must obtain and wear a wrist band for the duration of each session. Band checks will be performed by venue staff however it is the responsibility of each coach to ensure their athletes adhere to this ruling. Bands should be collected prior to the start of your session.
- Always run in an anti-clockwise direction. Where possible, training sessions should avoid the use of lane 1 to prevent excessive wear.
- The track should be treated like a road always look both ways and make sure it is safe to cross at all times. Be aware of other track users around you.
- The use of headphones/mobile phones on the track or infield is not permitted. This is potentially dangerous and may stop you from hearing other track users or safety announcements.
- Be polite and respectful to other athletes, coaches and venue staff.
- Do not spit or clear your nose whilst using the track.
- Hurdle training should be restricted to lanes 8, 9 & 10 in the home straight area. For longer hurdles training please use the outer lanes around the bend.
- Coaches and athletes are responsible for ensuring that any equipment used is returned to the correct storage location.
- Particularly on busier nights, athletes and coaches must be respectful of other users. Sessions should start and end in a timely fashion using only the areas required to complete that session. Larger training groups must be mindful of others and organised in conducting their session so as not to inhibit other users.
- If a faster athlete wishes to overtake another athlete they should shout “track” in plenty of time. Overtaking should take place on the outside. The slower athlete will be expected to maintain their lane and allow the faster runner to pass.
- Coaches must ensure that when using the throws cage for Discus and Hammer throwing, the nets must remain closed and only the throwing athlete is permitted within the enclosed area of the throw. There should be no athletes on the infield whilst another athlete throws.
- Young athletes should be supervised at all times.
- Athletes using throwing, jumping or hurdling equipment must be supervised by a coach at all times.
- Only up to 7mm spikes (“Pyramid or Christmas tree”) will be permitted within the track environment. ONLY In the high jump and javelin areas 9mm spikes are permitted.
- Personal belongings should not be left on the track or infield. Training areas must be clear and accessible at all times. You are responsible for the safety of your belongings.
- Please do not litter on the track, use the bins provided or take your rubbish home.
