Care Leaver Package 2019/20 (£9,250 fee cohort)

If you're leaving care, we guarantee to provide you with a bursary package of £3,500 a year.
The Care Leaver Package guarantees care leavers a bursary of up to £1,500 a year and an additional award from the Student Success Scholarship of £2,000.

Are you eligible for the bursary?

To receive the bursary you must

  • be an undergraduate UK or 'home' fee status student on a full-time or sandwich course, paying the full tuition fee either yourself or by a sponsor (such as the NHS for some health courses)
  • have spent three or more months in care while at school, from Year 10 onwards
  • be 25 or under when you start your course
  • be eligible for the relevant maximum level of statutory funding or NHS bursary

How much will you receive?

You'll get £3,500 for every academic year where you pay full tuition fees. This is on top of your normal undergraduate student funding package from Student Finance England or the NHS.

How can you apply?

In order to access the full package you'll need to apply for Student Success Scholarship by using the link on the 'Scholarships' page in 'My Student Record'. For information on what evidenced is required to complete your application, please read the guidelines (PDF, 112.3KB).

When will you get paid?

Payment is dependent on when you apply. Typically you will receive payment no later than one month following the closure of the relevant application window.

If you started your course in September and think you should have been awarded a Care Leaver Package, but we've not contacted you by March 2020, contact Hallam Help so that we can investigate.
