Who can book a study needs assessment

Before you can book a study needs assessment you must have applied for Disabled Students' Allowances (DSA) and have received confirmation you're eligible from your funding body.

You do not pay the fee for your Study Needs Assessment, your funding body covers this cost for you and you do not have to pay them back.

Appointments

You can have your study needs assessment appointment over the phone, videocall or face to face. You will be asked to choose when you book. If you choose videocall, you will be able to decide whether to have your camera on while speaking. We will provide guidance on how to arrange the video call and will provide support if you are unsure.

We want you to feel comfortable during your study needs assessment. If you would prefer a male or female assessor, you can tell us this when you book your appointment.

Availability

We offer appointments Monday to Friday at a variety of times throughout the day, including morning, afternoon and early evening. You will have the opportunity to specify your availability on the booking form.

Our current waiting time is between 1 and 5 working days. At busy times you may have to wait a little longer, but we will always offer you an appointment within a maximum of 15 working days of contacting us.

How to book

You can request a Study Needs Assessment by completing our booking form.

If you would like support booking or would like to book your study needs assessment over the phone, please contact us. You will be able to specify any accessibility requirements on the form.

Our phone lines are open Monday to Friday 10:00am-12:30pm and 1:30pm-5:00pm (4:45pm on Fridays). If our phone lines are closed, please leave us a message with your name and contact details and we will call you back.

Evidence requirements

Once you've completed the booking form, you will need to send us your:

• DSA eligibility letter: This is the letter or email your funding body sent you to confirm that you're eligible for DSA. If your funding body is Student Finance, you should have received a copy via email or via your student finance account.
• Medical evidence: This is the evidence you sent to your funding body when you applied for DSA. If you sent the originals to your funding body and do not have a copy, please email us.

We won't be able to book your assessment without these documents.

You can email these documents to assessment-centre@shu.ac.uk. If you do not have a digital copy of your medical evidence you can use a mobile scanning app. We recommend 'Scannable by Evernote' for IOS devices and 'Clear Scan' for Android devices.
