Becoming a Practice Educator

Becoming a Practice Educator

L'APPLE Courses - 2022-2023

This section contains information which will be of interest to Practice Placement Educators (PPEs). We hope the information on this page will be useful to you.

Whilst there is no HCPC requirement for practice educators to be accredited, we encourage this as good practice as it improves the experience of the student and the educator and is an important part of the quality assurance of placement learning.

Things have changed

APPLE Accreditation for Occupational Therapy Practice Educators does not exist as it once did, and as of 31st August 2020 has ceased being managed by the Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT).

It is now L'APPLE - accreditation for Occupational Therapy Practice Educators.

The course is a collaboration between the three universities (HEIs) in the Trent region. It allows participants to begin the process of becoming accredited to take students from any of these three HEIs (i.e. Sheffield Hallam University, University of Derby and University of Lincoln). This process is completed when you have taken your first student and completed an assessment based on your learning from this experience.

The word accredited has been presented in bold to indicate that the course does not attract academic credit and is not ratified formally by the participating HEIs.

L'APPLE Courses 2022-23

The next L'APPLE courses that we will be offering in conjunction with the University of Derby and the University of Lincoln during 2022-2023 will take place as follows:

University of Derby

Normally the final day of the Course will be at the end of the day of the final webinar.  Delegates can apply for additional time to complete if work requirements are making it difficult to complete the course on time.

The Update programme for existing Practice Educators/Mentors will run concurrently with the Course. All requests to book on the Update programme should be sent to ahptraining@shu.ac.uk

For the Update programme there is no need for delegates to attend the webinars.  Training materials will be abridged to take into account that delegates are already Practice Educators/Mentors.
