Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE)
The Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE) has been developed by Skills for Care, the CWDC, the Department of Health and the Social Work Reform Board. The aim of ASYE is to support newly qualified social workers in their first year of employment. Further information on ASYE can be accessed via the following link to the Skills for Care website.

Knowledge and Skills for Child and Family Social Work
The Knowledge and Skills for Child and Family Social Work, published In July 2014 by the Chief Social Worker for Children and Families, was updated in May 2018. This link takes you to the current guidance available from the Department for Education Guidn.

In January 2016, the Department for Education announced that by 2020, all frontline social workers will need to have passed the tests for Approved Child and Family Practitioner status.

Knowledge and Skills for Social Work in Adult Services
The Knowledge and Skills Statement for Social Workers in Adult Services, published in March 2015 by the Chief Social Worker for Adults, was updated in December 2018.

Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP)

The AMHP programme includes 3 modules which are designed to support you to make full use of placement learning opportunities:

  • Values, Ethics and Evidence Informed Practice
  • Mental Health Law and Policy
  • AMHP Practice

Your 450 hour placement will be approved subject to the linked Quality Assurance Process. This includes the Audit Process which will be applied using the AMHP Audit Template.

Supporting you on Placement
During your AMHP Placement, you will be expected to undertake half a day of study (3.5 hours) for every 37.5 hours you spend on placement. Your placement learning will be guided by an appropriately qualified and experienced AMHP professional.

Evaluating AMHP Placement Learning
Towards the end of your AMHP placement, you and your Practice Educator will be invited to evaluate your placement learning.experience. Please do complete this, as it helps to guide the course team and faculty placement team in making improvements to the placement learning experiences for all students. Thank you for your help.
