Erasmus and international exchanges

Erasmus logo

International experience helps you to develop both personally and professionally. Meeting new people and experiencing new cultures will boost your confidence and make your CV stand out to future employers. Many of our courses provide the opportunity to study abroad for three months or up to a year and earn credit towards a final qualification. There are also opportunities to work abroad as part of an exchange programme.

We have exchange agreements with over 100 institutions across the world and welcome up to 120 incoming exchange students each year. Visit our list of partner institutions to find out where you can go and what subjects are available.

The Erasmus+ programme provides funding to support you when you go on an Erasmus+ exchange. Further information about the funding rates can be found on the programme's website (please note the Erasmus+ grant is not guaranteed and the rates change each year).

If your course at Sheffield Hallam includes a work placement (a sandwich course), you may be able to find a work placement in the EU and receive the Erasmus+ grant. Your Faculty placement team can provide further information on work placements.

What our exchange students say

“Erasmus+ helped me to see new countries and meet a lot of new people from all around the world. It gave me the opportunity to visit interesting and cultural places, practise new languages and develop myself.”

Sara Graham, BSc Psychology, studied at the University of Jyväskylä in Finland

“Without sounding too cliché, I grew massively as a person, I met friends from all over the globe and learned about many different cultures, apart from just Finland.”
