Orientation programme

The International Orientation Programme will take place between 16 – 25 September 2020. It will offer a combination of online sessions, interactive workshops, and small-group social activities on campus, if permitted by the social distancing rules at the time. 

All activities must be booked in advance. Some sessions are repeated during Orientation, please book and attend just one. 

If you are planning to attend from home, please check the time difference before you book. You will receive a booking confirmation to your Sheffield Hallam email account which will contain the secure link to the online session. Please keep this email as you will not be able to join the session without the secure link. Online sessions will be hosted on Zoom, with details of how to join here

Working in the UK During and After Study 
(Visa focussed)
This session will focus upon the type of work and hours you can do as a Tier 4 student. It will also cover what we know about the new Graduate visa route which launches next year.  This session will include advice, tips and information on how to job hunt and increase your chances of success in securing work during and after studies.  Wednesday 16 September, 11:30am – 12.30pm - Book here

Finding a Part Time Job
One of our employability advisers will give a short introduction to the Careers and Employability services available to you. This will be followed by a panel session which will feature contributions from students, the Careers and Employability service and a specialist immigration adviser. Students' Union Welcome
Our Students' Union offer a warm welcome to Sheffield Hallam University. Come along to find out about the Advice Centre, student societies and volunteering opportunities.  The session will also include fun activities and a welcome from the International Officer Diya Babu. Hallam Insiders – 
Student Life in the UK
Join us for this live session delivered by current students at Sheffield Hallam. This session will feature advice about studying at the University and highlighting some of their favourite place in the City.  Wednesday 23 September, 11am – 12pm - Book here

Social activities

International Students Social Meet other international students and get past the awkwardness of first conversations with some fun activities; hopefully everyone leaves with some new friends.

The event will be hosted by your International Students' Officer and the Hallam Students Union Staff, and there will also be the chance to chat to them and ask them questions about studying/life at Hallam.

Many of our start-of-year processes are now online, so you should be able complete them while you are preparing to travel. To make it easier for you, we have created a list of tasks you could complete before you arrive in the UK, as well as the guidance to help you.

*Please note, if you are a student from an EU country, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Switzerland, and have begun a course of education or training in England before the end of 2020, you may continue to use your EHIC or PRC, if you have one, to access free NHS healthcare until the end of your course. More information can be found on the NHS website.
