The International Orientation programme will begin on Wednesday 15 September 2021*, with sessions repeated throughout the following two weeks. It will offer a combination of online information sessions delivered by staff and current students, and small group social activities including campus/city tours, a welcome dinner and fun social activities (if permitted by social distancing rules at the time).
All activities must be booked in advance. Some sessions are repeated during Orientation, please book and attend just one.

|Working in the UK During and After Study
|This session will focus upon the type of work and hours you can do as a Student visa holder. It will also cover what we know about the new Graduate visa route which launches next year. |Finding a Part Time Job
||One of our employability advisers will give a short introduction to the Careers and Employability services available to you. This will be followed by a panel session which will feature contributions from students, the Careers and Employability service and a specialist immigration adviser.|
|Students' Union Welcome
||Our Students' Union offer a warm welcome to Sheffield Hallam University, come along to find out about the Advice Centre, Student Societies and Volunteering opportunities. The session will also include fun activities and a welcome from the International Officer Praise Ishola.|
|University English Scheme
||This session will introduce you to the classes and resources we offer to help you to develop your academic English while studying at SHU.
|Succeeding in your Studies||Find out about how the Skills Centre can help you achieve your very best results during your time at Sheffield Hallam University.
During this interactive session you will find out about the help available and will have an opportunity to take the Skills Check and develop your own personal action plan for success.
|New Friends, New Conversations
||Living in a different country or city can be challenging. This fun session will give you practical advice on adapting to a new culture and making new friends. This session will be held on campus.|
|Introduction to Culture Connect - with Super Mentors
||During your first year here, you will be able to share your aspirations and concerns with your mentor. Culture Connect matches you with someone who’s been a new student and will help you settle into University life and Sheffield culture. This session will be repeated throughout Orientation so please attend just one.|
|British Life and Culture
||New to the UK? This lighthearted session is an ideal introduction to British Culture and Sheffield. Find out the best places to visit and learn some local Sheffield slang words.|
Student Life in the UK
||Join us for this live session delivered by current students at Sheffield Hallam. This session will feature advice about studying at the University and highlighting some of their favourite place in the City.|
|Session for Students with Families||A short session including working with a dependant visa, school options and cultural tips for students with extra responsibilities.|
|IT Support Session||Join us for an interactive session where we will introduce you to the key computer systems you will need to use at Sheffield Hallam University, including Unihub, Blackboard and how to raise a case with Hallam Help.|
|Conversation Club||One of the best ways to meet new friends is at our regular Conversation Club, with ice breakers, quizzes and lots of opportunities to meet new people. This will be a face-to-face event on City Campus, with restricted numbers to allow an element of social distancing. It is important you book in advance so we can send details of the room to you.

|Welcome Dinner||Join us at one of our Welcome Dinners at Chef Hallam (Owen Building, Level 6), an informal evening with other new students. There will be hot food served followed by a general knowledge quiz. This evening is a great way to meet other new students who have just arrived at Sheffield Hallam. Please only attend one of the evenings as numbers are restricted. Buy your ticket in advance as there will be no tickets for sale on the day.|
|Walk along Ecclesall Road to Botanical Gardens||Join us as we explore one of the most popular and busy streets in the City followed by a walk into Endcliffe Park. The walk will be approximately one hour and it is essential that you book your place in advance as numbers are strictly limited.||Saturday 18 September, 11am – 2pm - Book here|
|Walk to Endcliffe Park||Explore Sheffield and meet new friends on a walk to Endcliffe Park. The walk will be around 3km and be led by one of our Student Ambassadors. |Walk to Weston Park||Join us for a 30 minute walk to Weston Park on the outskirts of the City. This trip will be led by our student crew, please meet at the Main University Entrance, Owen Building.||Wednesday 22 September, 5 – 8pm - Book here|
|Trip to York||Popular with local and international tourists, York is one of the most historic cities in the UK. Among its many attractions are the famous castle, minster and museums, including the National Railway Museum. |Walk to Norfolk Park||Join us for a short walk to Norfolk Park, another great opportunity to meet new friends and explore Sheffield. Meet at the main University entrance and our student crew will lead the way.||Sunday 26 September, 11am – 2pm - Book here|
|Walk into the Peak District||Sheffield is the greenest city in Europe, come and find out why on our guided trip to the edge of Peak District. This event will involve a 5-8 km walk so please bring refreshments and wear sensible shoes.|
Meet our student ambassador at the Meet & Greet desk, level 5, Owen Building and they will take you on a tour of our City Campus. It is essential that you pre book on to this activity as numbers are limited.
Alternatively, join one of the many campus tours running all through Hallam Welcome Week, 20 - 24 September.
|City Tour||Meet our student ambassador at the Meet & Greet desk, level 5, Owen Building for a tour of the City Centre which will include places of interest, our favourite cafes and essential services, e.g. banks. Please pre-book on to this activity are numbers are strictly limited.||
|Historical Walk of Sheffield||Join us as we step back into Sheffield's history and explore the City's industrial past. This will be led by one of our student ambassadors and is a good way to discover interesting facts about Sheffield and to meet others.
