Covid-safe travel advice

Government advice is that wherever possible you should use private transport to travel to and from your term-time address. If you need to use public transport please always follow the guidelines for safe travel.

When to book

You should travel as close as possible to the start of your on-campus teaching and test appointment.

If you’re travelling by train, you must book in advance. Operators are offering flexible pre-booked tickets, so you will be able to change your travel dates if your plans have to change (for example if you test positive and have to self isolate).

For shorter journeys, try to avoid using public transport if you can.

Covid-safe travel

Try to limit the amount of luggage you take with you.

Remember to:

  • wear a face covering on public transport and in stations,
  • avoid social contact with others, and
  • regularly wash your hands throughout the journey.

International travel

If you are planning to come to Sheffield from overseas, check the FCO travel advice pages and follow the guidance for quarantine, and for completing a passenger locator form before your return.

Note that if you wish to try and reduce your quarantine time through the UK’s Test to Release for international travel scheme you will need to take a PCR test and not the University's Covid-19 test.
