Finding a new perspective on business challenges

Marc is a director of a medium sized professional service business. He completed an MBA in 2013 and felt motivated to continue to the DBA by challenges which arose in his market.

As a result, Marc is now more able to cast both a critical and constructive lens over his business problems.

'I found that the Sheffield Hallam Business School staff were extremely welcoming and helpful when I first made my enquiry with them and when I started my application,' he says.

'I think that the most rewarding and enjoyable aspect of the programme is the opportunity to explore a business problem within my organisation in a level of depth that I wouldn't ordinarily do. Not only are the faculty staff engaged with my business problem but my fellow students are too, as am I with their concerns.

'Like other businesses, we are challenged by the wider economic environment but probably more so by the challenges that our clients face. I have learned to approach problems differently, not just focusing in on a narrow interest, and I have learned to be more reflexive about how the problem is arising, really challenging myself and others to get to the heart of the problem.'
