Researching the upstream oil sector

Said Al-Bahlawi is a DBA student who is applying his studies to his work at Petroleum Development Oman, an operating unit of Shell.

Said Al Bahlawi, DBA student at Sheffield Hallam University

'I work in the oil and gas industry focusing on the upstream oil sector, looking at exploration and production,' he says.

'My work and DBA study are closely interlinked. I find that the interaction and relevancy of my studies to my work are difficult to separate.

'I was attracted to a DBA as this has academic and practical applications rather than being purely academically research based.

'Sheffield Hallam's DBA offered me the opportunity to study part-time in blocks, is delivered in the English language and I was already familiar with studying in Sheffield. This made Sheffield Hallam ideal for me. I was keen to do a DBA and the positive word of mouth feedback I heard about SHU encouraged me to apply.

'Through my course I have found that my literature review, critical reasoning and understanding skills have been utilised in my work to develop practical solutions in the workplace.'
