The AWRC Wellbeing Accelerator is a rolling programme running from April 2020–March 2021. It will support startups, academics and businesses working in wellbeing with mentoring, sector expertise and specialist facilities. The programme does not take equity and is funded by Research England.
Based in Sheffield Hallam’s new Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre, participants will have access to world-class R&D capabilities for rapid prototyping through to precision engineering. This includes laboratories for product testing, support networks and a clinical research centre.
The programme is virtual and split into two phases. Startups join as small monthly cohorts and dial in via Zoom for mentoring and consulting support.
In phase 1 of the programme, running from 1 April - 31 July 2020, we aim to recruit 3 monthly cohorts each containing 5 startups. So far we have filled two cohorts: our first cohort in April and our second cohort in June. We have recruited 3 startups to our July cohort so far and therefore have 2 places remaining in our July cohort. Once we fill our July cohort, while we will still welcome applications from startups, we won't review applications until early September. The accelerator programme will pause over August.
In phase 2, running from 2 September, we will recruit a further 9 startups across two cohorts: one in September and the final one in November.
