Science Week 2018 round-up
9th to 18th March marked Science Week 2018, and BMRC staff and PhD students took the opportunity to talk about science at various locations and to a wide range of publics.
We went out to speak at schools, including Ridgewood School in Doncaster (Dr Akram Khan & Dr David Smith), Wath Comprehensive in Doncaster (Prof Christine Le Maitre), Silverdale School in Sheffield (Dr David Smith), St Wilfrid’s Catholic Primary School in Sheffield (Dr Roz Wolstenholme), and St Mary’s Primary School, High Green (Dr Sue Campbell) to deliver workshops and presentations to school children to spark their interest in science.
Dr Danny Allwood gave a talk at the Sheffield and District Society of Model and Experimental Engineers and three of our PhD students, Lucy Flint, Rob Tempest and Oana Voloaca were part of the activity for the Hepp students (The Higher Education Progression Partnership) in the University’s STEM labs talking to students about higher education, our careers and cancer biology.
And of course we delivered our yearly event ‘Explore Science and Engineering @ SHU’ on 17th March, which attracted close to 1000 visitors this year. Please see the video below for a summary of Science Week 2018.
