Late Live: The Science of Science Fiction
After last year’s success of Late Live: The Horror Within, we teamed up with Museums Sheffield, Millennium Gallery, again for another instalment of the Late Live Session. This year we explored the science behind Science Fiction.
We presented a series of talks by various experts exploring the underlying science of science fictional worlds, from Armageddon to Jurassic Park, such as
- World-destroying superbugs from a parallel universe
- Selecting the perfect embryo: The Science of Gattaca
- Science Fiction to science fact: How Star Trek changed the world
- Is there life on Mars?
- They came from below…
- The Sci Fi in TV forensics – Trick or truth?
In addition, there was a whole host of interactive experiences, vintage games Space Invaders and Avengers Pinball, Supercell Superheroes, classic B-movie shorts were on show throughout the evening, there was music and a pay bar. Finally, comic artist Jim Connelly did a live pop-up sketching session of attendees of the event.
The feedback received suggested that everyone had an evening out of this world!
