Radiotherapy Bra: National coverage for pioneering project to develop a bra for women undergoing breast radiotherapy

Wednesday 02 November 2016

Professor Heidi Probst and her colleagues in Allied Health have been working with Heath Reed of the Art & Design Research Centre to develop a revolutionary bra for use during radiotherapy for breast cancer. The new bra preserves the dignity of breast cancer patients during radiotherapy and aims to improve the accuracy of treatment by keeping the breast in the same position each time.  The bra is the product of the ‘SuPPORT 4 All’ project, a collaboration between the Sheffield Hallam University research teams, Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Sheffield-based lingerie company Panache.  It is funded by the NIHR Invention for Innovation (i4i) Programme. The pioneering project has received extensive local, national and international coverage, including in the Sheffield Star, South Yorkshire TimesMail OnlineCanada Standard and Singapore News. You can watch a video about the project on SHU’s Media Centre.
