STAIN-LESS exhibition kicks off Galvanize Sheffield 2013

Wednesday 08 May 2013

Galvanize Sheffield Festival of Contemporary Metal is a celebration of all things metal and metalwork. It runs throughout May and we were pleased to host the launch event at our very own Sheffield Institute of Arts (SIA) gallery, which is in the Cantor building, home to C3RI.

The launch event was also the opening night of STAIN-LESS, an exhibition by the Association for Contemporary Jewellery (ACJ). STAIN-LESS showcases jewellery by national and international designer-makers working in a variety of materials and technologies. More than 150 guests came to the opening, including the Lord Mayor John Campbell, Master Cutler Neil McDonald, and the Assay Master for Sheffield, Ashley Carson.

Reader in metalwork and jewellery and C3RI member, Maria Hanson, is presenting her Tags collection as part of STAIN-LESS. Her pieces represent the last 100 years in the form of dog tags or price tags, examining the number of years that the UK has been involved in military conflict during that time.

You can also watch this clip of Maria talking about the exhibition and Galvanize.

Visit the festival website to find out about other Galvanize Sheffield events. STAIN-LESS is in the SIA gallery until 31 May 2013.
