This series of sculptures continues Wilson’s longstanding exploration of the illusion of drop sculpture through the iterative and critically reflexive creation of each form
This research engaged with the potential for meaning to be generated and subverted through relationship to context. The development of the work deliberately sought to challenge the perceived ability for artwork to embody pre-defined meaning, whether in relation to site or the wider artist's project. Within one of Wilson's exhibited works, 'Calendar', iterative daily changes to its configuration questioned what presents itself as fixed and formal sculpture.
The second work 'Zone 1' embraced deliberate radical shifts in meaning as it was publically sited at different tour venues. The works' titles, contextual relationships and audience experience took on new resonance as the works evolved. This consideration of the contingency of meaning within abstraction was enabled through participation within the British Art Show making full use of its geographical reach and extended duration.
