Female Hysteria - Panel discussion of how art and media depictions of female hysteria have evolved

Date: Saturday 10 September 2016
Time: 12.00 PM to 03.00 PM

A panel of artists, academics and women's aid workers will discuss evolving histories of ‘female hysteria', its depictions in art, film and media, and the contrasting ways in which heightened emotional states in women are received in society and institutions today.   The event is hosted by Susu Laroche and includes contributions from Sharon Kivland, Reader in Fine Art at Sheffield Hallam University, alongside New Noveta, Liv Fontaine, Mary Hannity, Jumanah Younis, Sidsel Meineche Hansen and Helen Knowles.

This seminar accompanies an exhibition of films Susu Laroche has made featuring the performance artists New Noveta (Keira Fox and Ellen Freed). These films depict female hysteria and emotional response to crises. The show runs from 1st to 25th September and more information is here.

Anyone is welcome to join the discussion, seating will be limited so please arrive early, refreshments offered.
