Transmission: A presentation by David Stent, Sarah Hughes and Dominic Lash
Hughes and Stent are both founding members of the Set Ensemble, a group dedicated to the performance of contemporary and experimental composition, and will be performing with Dominic Lash as part of the presentation.
David Stent is an artist, writer and performer working with text, image, and collaborative practices. He has recently initiated a long-term publishing project, The Müleskinders: A Prototype Publication, at London’s Banner Repeater, and is conducting an ongoing series of collaborative residencies entitled Writing as Occupation. He holds a PhD from the University of Reading and is currently Head of Visual Arts at West Dean College.
Sarah Hughes works across sculpture, installation, sound, and open form composition. Hughes’ recent work has taken the six books of Roman poet T Lucretius Cari's only major work, De Rerum Natura (On the Nature of Things) as a point from which to explore structure, interpretation, and translation. Parallel to this is an ongoing interest in how materials, objects and the commodity mediate experience, and how familiarity can be used as a tool in arts practice.
Dominic Lash is a freely improvising double bassist. His activities also range much more widely and include playing bass guitar and other instruments; both writing and performing composed music; and writing about music and various other subjects. His main projects include The Dominic Lash Quartet, The Set Ensemble (an experimental music group focused on the work of the Wandelweiser collective) and The Convergence Quartet.
