Visions in the Nunnery Exhibition
Established in 1999, Visions has been consistently pioneering in its championing of emerging and experimental moving image practice. Visions in the Nunnery will include installations, performances, screenings and talks, combining invited works from previously exhibited established artists alongside emerging talent selected from a worldwide open call.
Programme 2 of the exhibition features Rose Butler's short film The Fair. The programme launch event, with live networked performances, is on 24 November and you can get tickets here.
Filmed from the quiet edges of a city centre car park, The Fair documents the rotating arm of a fairground ride appearing and then disappearing behind old industrial buildings and the John Lewis department store; as the arm rotates we hear people on the ride screaming. The film evokes questions of escape, control, immersion and complicity.
Rose Butler is an artist researcher and senior lecturer in Fine Art at Sheffield Hallam University.
