Lead Investigators Catherine Homer, Angela Tod, Peter Almark, Sadiq Bhanbhro
Funded by Clahrc SY
Amount £14,974.36
Dates December 2013

Aim

Explore the rehabilitation and weight management experiences of stroke survivors of younger age (70 and under) within the South Yorkshire locality in order to

  • identify whether weight gain is a problem for some people following a stroke, and if so who
  • identify what factors contribute to weight gain
  • identify appropriate and accessible interventions to prevent weight gain
  • develop data collection tools for a larger study if required

Impact

The study will provide insight into additional services and interventions for stroke patients and will help to

  • inform and improve pathways and referral routes to existing services to facilitate patient focused care and improve patient experience
  • make recommendations for appropriate methods of giving behaviour change information to patients following a stroke
  • raise awareness of the support needs of patients for service providers and commissioners

Provide preliminary findings to support the development of a proposal to widen the sample size and geographical area of the study.
