Promoting awareness and early symptomatic presentation of breast cancer in the female learning disability (LD) population: whose job is it anyway?

Cost £7,000

Aim

Whilst screening is available for all women, the uptake rates among women with learning disabilities (LD) is poor. The aim of this study was to undertake a multi-disciplinary scoping exercise within Sheffield to identify current approaches to dealing with women with LD, with regards to promoting breast awareness, early presentation of breast symptoms and optimising information, treatment and support for this group. It also aimed to identify perceived gaps in current service provision and views regarding needs/priorities for future research.
