Fictional human and real robot: sharing spaces with robots (interactive display, scriptwriting workshop and filmmaking session)

Date: Sunday 20 November 2016
Time: 10.00 AM to 03.00 PM
Venue: Owen 221/222, Sheffield Hallam University

In a future where intelligent androids are fully integrated with everyday life, how do we distinguish ourselves as human?

Over the course of the weekend, on the 19 and 20 November, researchers from Sheffield Hallam University's Materials and Engineering Research Institute and Cultural, Communication and Computing Research Institute will present an interactive display of their latest work in robot, AI and VR technology developed at Sheffield Robotics

At 12.00 noon on both days there will be a scriptwriting workshop led by Ms Sue Bodnar, a creative writer, and fiction filmmaking session led by Sheffield Hallam media and film production students. This will provide visitors with the chance to express their response to the imminent reality of robot citizens becoming part of our everyday lives. The resulting film will be screened on Wednesday 23 November, at Sheffield Hallam University, followed by an informal discussion. Throughout the week of the Being Human Festival, a complementary exhibition depicting robots and their usage via different mediums will be on display at Bank Street Arts.

Free admission, no booking required

This event is also taking place on Saturday 19 November.
