New research carried out by SIRC, measuring the Social Return on Investment (SROI) of sport and physical activity for Greater London has been published by London Sport.
The research found that £8.75bn of social value was generated from sport and physical activity in 2015/16. It estimated that an increase of one million Londoners taking part in physical activity by 2020 would create an additional £1.8bn of social value for London.
Lead researcher Dr Larissa Davies said, 'This research provides some powerful messages on the social value of sport and physical activity to London. It shows that there are numerous benefits to individuals and society in terms of improved health, life satisfaction, educational attainment, social capital and reduced crime. The research shows that getting more people active has a positive effect.'
