Social Return on Investment in Sport
Monday 11 April 2016
New research from SIRC has for the first time valued the social impact of sport in England. Commissioned by the Higher Education Investment Fund and supported by Sport England and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, the team of researchers found that for every £1 spent on participating in sport in England, £1.91 worth of benefit is generated in society.
The research, which used a Social Return on Investment (SROI) approach, estimated the social benefits from sport compared to the total estimated costs of providing sport. It examined the value of sport's impact on improving six health outcomes; reducing crime, improving educational attainment, enhancing human capital, volunteering and improving subjective wellbeing.
