The Centre has a long standing history of providing monitoring and evaluation, market segmentation and facilities management services to Sport England. We have undertaken a considerable amount of evaluation for Sport England in relation to evaluating interventions aimed at increasing participation in sport and physical activity. SIRC has also carried out complex analysis of Active People datasets, provided market segmentation support and training and has been the provider of the National Benchmarking Service (NBS) on behalf of Sport England since 1997.
In 2010/11 SIRC provided a national data training programme to over 400 colleagues from Local Authorities, County Sports Partnerships and National Governing Bodies to help them use the Active People Diagnostic Tool and sport market segmentation to improve service development, marketing communications and strategic planning.
Our evaluation of Sport Unlimited, a programme aimed at engaging and retaining young people aged 11 to 19 in sport and physical activity was positively received. The programme was a huge success and the evaluation highlighted that the programme exceeded its ambitious retention target by almost 7%. This evaluation provided real time impact data for deliverers and shared good practice on 'what works' to engage, retain and sustain young people's participation. The evaluation helped to shape the subsequent 'Sportivate' programme which built on the successes and lessons learnt from Sport Unlimited.
