Our research, evaluation, knowledge exchange and teaching is underpinned by principles that act as the foundation on which we conduct ourselves and our work. Some of these principles are presented in detail on this page alongside other information that is relevant to the ways we work.
The Centre thought it important to have a Race
Equality Statement relating to the research, evaluation and knowledge exchange
work undertaken in the Centre as well as teaching, supervision, and other
activity.
The statement places ‘anti-racism’ as an aim rather than a met
objective. Racism acts through structures and institutions as well as
individuals. Even when all individuals in an institution are not
consciously racially prejudiced, systems, policies and processes can result in
segregation, marginalisation, and discrimination. Staff felt that the
statement needed to acknowledge this. Given that this was a race equality
statement, staff felt that racism needed to be clearly foregrounded rather than
placed alongside other dimensions of inequity. However, we also wanted to
include an acknowledgement of how racism intersects with other dimensions
of inequity.
