Clearing is a way of finding a course at university starting this year. It can be used if you don’t already have a place at university (whether you’ve already applied or not), or if you want to change your chosen course or university.
You can use clearing to find an undergraduate course if
Clearing is open. Our phone lines are open from 9am–5pm, Monday to Friday. Our number is 0330 024 6390.
On Thursday 16 August (A level results day) our phone line will open at 6.30am.
You can find a list of available courses here. These are constantly updated so please keep checking for the most up-to-date information.
You can also look on the UCAS clearing vacancy website.
Apply online now or call us on 0330 024 6390. Please have the following details ready:

Yes. We have open days on Saturday 18 August and Tuesday 21 August. Book your place.
For a small number of courses you may be invited to attend an interview or selection event. We’ll tell you if this applies to you when you call. Be prepared to attend the selection event at short notice.
A ‘clearing choice’ button will automatically be added to your UCAS Track screen if you're in clearing.
You'll need to contact universities directly to apply for a place. Once you have received an offer verbally or in writing and you want to accept the place, enter the details of the institution and course into UCAS Track.
If you haven't already applied through the UCAS system you can still apply through clearing. Apply online now or call us on 0330 024 6390.
We will email you to tell you what to do next. Check your inbox regularly (including your junk folder) as this email includes important information.
Yes. Apply online now or call us on 0330 024 6390.
If we offer you a place, you’ll need to wait until you receive your confirmation email. You’ll then need to contact the university where you currently have a place to request to be released. Once you've been released you can't change your mind and go back to your initial selection, so it's important to be sure about your decision.
You will also need to inform Student Finance England that you have changed university.
If we make you an offer, it will be conditional on you achieving certain grades in your exams. We will then confirm your grades on 16 August and make a final decision on your application.
If you achieve better grades than you need for your first choice course, you can choose to look for a different course that has places available, while still holding your original choice. This is known as adjustment.
Adjustment is entirely optional. Not everyone who is eligible will want to try to find an alternative place. And if you don't find a place on an alternative course through adjustment, you’ll still have your original university place.
To find out more, visit the UCAS adjustment webpage.
We guarantee to find you a place to live. You can apply online for accommodation using the student ID in your offer email.
You may need to wait up to 48 hours after getting your offer of a place on a course before you can apply for accommodation. If you're applying for accommodation before 16 August you will need to have formally accepted your offer on UCAS Track first.
Our accommodation team will usually contact you within two weeks after you have accepted your place on UCAS track. During this time you can track the progress of your accommodation application on your online account.
Choices of accommodation through clearing will be limited but we guarantee to find you a place to live. If you'd prefer to live in a privately owned shared house, visit our accommodation website for details of our registered properties and house-hunting events.
