We offer supervision for MPhil/PhD students to research full-time or part-time in areas covered by our research groups. These groups are organised around the research activities of the individual staff members and subject strengths. Currently our staff research activities are in
- education policy studies
- leadership and management in education
- pedagogy and new technologies
- social inclusion
- education and disability
- mathematics education
- early years education
- language and literacy in education
- higher education
There is also a professional doctorate leading to the award of EdD Doctorate in Education. This is a part-time programme which only recruits every two years. The first two years are taught on weekends, six times each year. Then you undertake original research for a dissertation which is examined in the same way as the PhD.
As a research student in education, you may have links with Sheffield Institute for Education which produces high-quality research in educational policy and practice, creating positive benefits for children and young people, their teachers and other professionals. Internationally recognised researchers have conducted research for government departments, professional bodies and charities.
