  • Ofsted 2017

'All those involved in the partnership are ambitious in their drive to provide high-quality teacher training.

NQTs and former trainees are highly professional, reflective practitioners who are held in high regard by their employing schools, colleges and settings.'

  • Our heritage

Our teaching department was set up in 1905, making us one of the most experienced providers of teacher training in the UK.

  • Our size

Thanks to our excellent reputation for teacher training, our graduates are in high demand. As a result, we've become one of the country's biggest providers of teacher training and professional development for teachers. We train over 1000 new teachers every year, and we train a quarter of all new teachers in the Yorkshire region.

  • Our teacher training placements

Sheffield Hallam offers one of the largest and most diverse range of placements in the region. We've built up a network of over 600 partner schools, colleges and other educational establishments, and we work together to our mutual advantage.

'Sheffield Hallam's great because they give you two contrasting experiences. You get one school where you're going to deal predominantly with behaviour management and classroom control; in the other, you're building more on the learning. That way, you're challenged in different areas.' Laura Scales, trainee teacher

  • Careers and employment

Our graduate teachers have a strong track record of progressing into more senior positions of responsibility, sometimes within as little as a year of graduating.

We offer a wide range of support services for students both while they're with us (in developing their employability and career-management skills). Even after graduation, students have access to experienced careers advisers, a programme of careers-related events (including recruitment fairs and employer presentations), netWORK, which advertises hundreds of graduate vacancies online, Impact, our career coaching and employer mentoring scheme, an international students' job club and much more.

Our wide range of continuing professional development (CPD) courses will help you to continue developing your teaching career to the same high standard. Many of our graduates also go on to train as mentors, supporting placement students from Sheffield Hallam in their own school or college.
