BSc (Honours) Professional Practice in Real Estate
Begin or continue a professional real estate career in the construction and property industry. Gain a degree while developing your technical knowledge, initiative and interpersonal skills – preparing you to apply for Chartered Member status with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) at the end of the apprenticeship.
How does the degree apprenticeship work?
You study a university course alongside 30+ hours of employment a week – so you'll need a relevant job role before you apply. The combination of the course and the job has to meet a national ‘apprenticeship standard’ – in this case the Chartered Surveyor standard. So you get to study for a recognised qualification, while earning a salary and having no student fees to pay.

The course normally takes 5 years part-time – then you'll complete an endpoint assessment within a further 12 months.
1. Course summary
- Gain knowledge in valuation, property development, planning and property economics.
- Apply your learning in your working environment, on site visits and in practical projects.
- Use the skills and knowledge you gain to apply for Chartered Member status with RICS.
This course is suitable if you're new to the industry or you'd like a degree qualification and professional recognition of your experience. As property job openings are expected to reach more than 42,000 in Yorkshire and the Humber by 2022 (Emsi, 2016), degree apprentices in real estate are now needed more than ever.
2. How you learn
As well as developing your understanding in areas such as real estate management, building technology and portfolio investment, you’ll develop effective skills in teamwork, negotiating and problem solving. You'll have an Academic Advisor and Work Based Learning Coach to support you, and the modules you study will prepare you for your endpoint assessment – which is the RICS Assessment of Professional Competence.

3. Where you'll study
You'll learn in modern facilities in our Natural and Built Environment Department in our City Campus, led by our experienced teaching staff.
4. Entry requirements
You need a job role to accompany your apprenticeship course
This has to be 30+ hours a week of employment in a relevant job role – and you would need your employer to agree to fund your course, either through government co-funding or the apprenticeship levy. You must also have the right to Abode in the UK.
You normally need qualifications as well
The usual entry requirements include 112 UCAS points from A levels, AS levels or BTEC National qualifications. We don't accept Key Skills and similar qualifications can't be counted twice – eg the points from both an AS level and the full A level if completed.
You'll also need GCSE (or equivalent) Maths, English and a Science subject at Grade C, 4 or above – although we may waive this requirement if you have significant and relevant previous experience.
You may be able to start on year 3 if you have a construction-related HND/HNC with an all merit average across all units.
