"The MBA helps me develop as a person and benefit the business as a result"
As Marketing Manager at Hogen Systems, Charlotte Allen is balancing a challenging role with an Executive MBA apprenticeship to help her develop her skills, her company and her career.
"All my assignments are based on my real-life experience with my company, allowing me to learn the theory alongside the practical aspect – which is highly beneficial."
"I decided to do a degree apprenticeship to help develop my knowledge and understanding of management with a view to improve my overall skills in the workplace, making me more effective at my job and therefore help my company's performance. My director and I are open with each other, I explained how this would help me develop as a person and therefore benefit the business as a result. My director is also guaranteed to keep me for at least the next 3 years.
My course is directly related to my job and all my assignments are based on my real-life experience with my company, allowing me to learn the theory alongside the practical aspect – which is highly beneficial. I allow approximately one working day a week to focus on my study, this includes further reading of books and journal articles, library time, application of theory to my company and assignment writing."
Advance your career into senior management by developing executive leadership skills in this innovative work-based MBA programme.
"I have a lot of support from my leadership team as well as having an external mentor who help me in my overall goal of achieving a work/study balance. At times it can be very difficult as things come up ad-hoc with work that need to be addressed immediately but the university staff are understanding of this and can help provide flexibility regarding assignments.
Sheffield Hallam gives me the flexibility and support I need to help balance study and work. The online resources are excellent and I have been able to contact my tutors easily with any questions or issues. They provide online portals with access to academic journals and databases I wouldn’t otherwise have and my tutors are available on email, face to face and on the phone when needed. My employer allows me the time to complete my study.
I really enjoy my job, it can be very challenging at times but that’s part of the fun. My degree apprenticeship is helping me develop as person, and put the theory of management directly alongside real life with all aspects relating my company. Once I have completed my Executive MBA I have no doubt I will be more effective at my job and both my own and the company's performance will improve. I would then like to continue working for my company and expanding my role further to grow into a higher leadership position."
