Children’s embodied experiences in primary education: Thinking through disability, gender and race

Discipline/professional area

Outline of research project

My work considers how children experience the world through their bodies, and how the differences of disability, race and gender play into these experiences. Particularly I am focusing on children in Reception and Year 1 at a northern English inner-city school. I use creative methodologies to understand children’s worlds in a way that makes sense to them. For example, I play with children and engage in activities they enjoy such as drawing.
