How the third sector shapes widening participation policy and practice
Outline of research project
‘Widening participation’ in higher education has been a focus of policy in England over successive governments since the 1990s, shaping roles for the state and universities to contribute to a more socially representative student body. Alongside these, a growing and vibrant third sector is also playing a role through lobbying, research and delivering widening participation activity. Through interviews and documentary analysis, my research examines how third sector organisations are influencing and responding to policy and practice and how they negotiate their unique position in the widening participation policy landscape.
