No alcohol required
By Ameena Naushahi, fine art student
Like one in five 16-to-24-year-olds, I don’t drink alcohol. Before I came to uni, I was worried the social scene would be about going to bars and drinking. But instead I’ve found that lots of people, from all cultures, aren’t into that. It’s really opened my eyes.
If you’re not a big drinker, my advice is to go to the societies fair in Welcome Week and meet people who are into the same things as you. I’m in the Knit Like Your Nana society, and while we do knit, we also meet up socially and go round each other’s flats for meals.
My favourite things to do in Sheffield
Go for a meal
Sheffield has loads of restaurants with food from all over the world. Amigos is my favourite – their chicken nachos are so good.
Get the tram to Centertainment
It’s only 10 minutes away from the city centre. You can go bowling, play pool, see a film, play crazy golf and go to Laser Quest.
Throw a party
Me and my friends often have parties without there being lots of drink. We play PlayStation, get everyone to bring some food and make a night of it.
Hang out at La Créme
This is an ice cream place on London Road. It's a nice chilled environment where you can just go and hang out. Rassam’s is just down the road too – they do good mocktails.
