'Without the discount I would've had to save up for the course.'

Girl with brown hair tied up wearing a white jumper smiling in a classroom.

Phoebe completed an undergraduate degree in BA (Hons) Physical Education and School Sport in 2020 and went on to study MSc International Events and Conference Management with the help of the Class of 2020 further study discount - now available for Class of 2023 students in their final year along with other discounts for alumni.

‘I felt so proud, I’d finally achieved my degree that I’d worked so hard for, I was so excited for my next chapter which was going to be a masters at Hallam.’

After studying Physical Education and School Sport for her undergraduate degree, Phoebe decided that she didn’t want to pursue that area of study or work. She was able to change her career path and study the MSc International Events and Conference Management postgraduate course at Hallam.

‘The discount on the masters course allowed me to apply without worrying about whether I could afford it or not. If it wasn’t for the reduced fee, I would've had to take a gap year to save up for the course - Hallam ensured that I didn’t have to.’

‘I couldn’t imagine going to another university, I really wanted to stay. After finding out about the discounted fees, it became very clear that this was the right choice.’

'The postgraduate student community was similar to my undergraduate experience with really helpful mentors and lecturers. I continued to make lots of friends through the course as well as societies and sports teams I could still be a part of.’

Phoebe was worried that the transition from her undergraduate degree to a masters degree would be difficult, but upon reflection, she was able to cope well with the change with support from the University.

‘Although the standard of work was at a higher level, the hardest transition was the workload. It was a big step up from an undergraduate course, but there is a great support system to ensure you get through it.’

‘I had an amazing time on my postgraduate course and I’m really pleased I had the opportunity to do it. The best thing I’ve done on the course is plan an incentive travel event for an assignment. We had to provide every detail as if it were to go ahead - this was a really fun assignment for me and a great learning experience.’

‘At the moment I am working in a marketing job which ties into the events industry quite nicely. After this, I aspire to become an events manager or do marketing for events.’

‘I would definitely recommend taking up this offer if you’re considering it. I really enjoyed my postgraduate study and I didn’t regret my decision, it’s a great step to take before pursuing a graduate job.’
