How we’re helping Lucy connect burns survivors around the world
When journalism student Lucy came to university she was worried about fitting in. Speaking in an interview with fellow burns survivor and best friend Raiché, she explains how being at Hallam has helped her overcome her fears and create a network for other burns survivors.
'Uni has made me a whole lot more confident. And it's helped me with the project ScarGlobal.
'It was me and my supervisor really. She suggested I should do something about burns survivors. That gave me the idea to create something online.'
What Lucy has developed, as a third-year project at Hallam, is a unique website that provides a vital link between burns survivors everywhere.
'There's nothing like it online. It's a website that shares stories of burns survivors from across the world.'
Lucy and ScarGlobal have since been featured on TV and in the press and Lucy is a passionate spokesperson.
'It's important to build that burns community, and to know that we're there for each other regardless of where we are in the world.'
