‘I’m so glad I chose to study my events and leisure management top-up degree at Hallam rather than at my college. It brought the real me out. I conquered my fear of going to university, and it was the best decision I ever made.

‘It’s different to studying at college – you get to meet new people and interact with the tutors. They always reply to emails and give you great advice. The teaching approach has allowed me to become more independent in my learning.

‘One of the most interesting parts of the course has been learning about event security, and these skills are even more crucial now after the horrific events in Manchester, which is what I based my dissertation on.

‘I encountered many difficulties on this course, including repeated admissions to hospital, but I didn’t give up! I fought through it and hit my deadlines in the hospital even if it meant being up until 3am.

‘I would advise other students that are considering to do a top-up degree to make the most of it whilst you can. Don’t be afraid – if you’re stuck, just ask for help. It’s not embarrassing to ask – it will boost your knowledge and grade!’
