University of the Year for Teaching Quality
We’re The Times and The Sunday Times University of the Year for Teaching Quality 2020.
The award recognises our consistently high student satisfaction scores, as measured by the independent National Student Survey (NSS).
In 2019 we achieved an overall score of 86% – our highest ever. Nearly 50 of our courses achieved an overall satisfaction score of more than 90%, and 10 courses scored 100%.
Don’t just learn it – do it
Our undergraduate courses have work experience opportunities embedded in each year, thanks to links with over 1,000 organisations – including the BBC, Sony, Adidas, Disney, the NHS, Airbus, Rolls-Royce and Sheffield United FC.
We deliver 24,000 placements and real-world projects every year, and 94% of our students are in work or further study six months after graduating.
How we teach
We’re committed to a distinctive, hands-on learning style. It is based on four principles that every Sheffield Hallam course follows.
- Engage: Connecting you with the world beyond the University.
- Challenge: Stretching you intellectually.
- Collaborate: Learning with, from and alongside others.
- Thrive: Helping you to grow personally, culturally and professionally.
Learn from experts
All of our teaching staff are active researchers. So as well as getting hands-on experience in your chosen field, you’ll be exposed to the knowledge and debates that are driving it forwards.
Because you're at the heart of our teaching, your views make a meaningful difference to your course and university experience. Expect to be included in discussions about how you're taught, what you study and the learning spaces you need.
