You will be taught by people who are experts in their academic subject. On our English course you benefit from the insights of award-winning novelist Jane Rogers. Health care tutor Claire Craig was made a fellow of the College of Occupational Therapists, the highest honour the organisation can award. And film professor Virginia Heath was nominated for a Scottish Bafta in 2014 for her BBC film From Scotland with Love.
As well as being experts in their academic subject, our lecturers are outstanding teachers. Our Institute of Education is led by Professor Sam Twiselton, a leading teaching specialist who is advising the government on the shape of education in the future.
We were one of the first UK universities to have members of staff recognised as National Teaching Fellows for their outstanding contribution to the learning experience – and our staff continue to be honoured in their annual teaching awards. All our teaching staff are either accredited by the Higher Education Academy, or working towards accreditation.
This teaching excellence is recognised every year by our students, who vote in our Inspirational Teaching Awards or the lecturers who make their learning come alive. In 2014 more than 3,500 students nominated more than 1,500 lecturers and academic support workers, describing their tutors as enthusiastic, passionate and approachable.
