QTS skills sessions

We are offering a series of QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) study skills events to support applicants before starting their course, these are also a great opportunity to visit the University and find out more about Sheffield. The day is designed so that you can choose the relevant skills sessions as well as one or more of our tours to suit you.

The event takes place at our City Campus and the support sessions will be based in Charles St Building, which is a 5 minute walk from the Main Reception.

How do I book?

Places are limited, so the earlier you book the better.

Skills Sessions

To ensure teachers are competent in literacy and numeracy, all teacher training applicants are required to pass QTS skills tests before starting a course. These skills sessions will give you the support you need to prepare you for your upcoming test. You will be guided through what to expect in the skills test with the use of approved practice tests and materials. There are sessions for both Numeracy and Literacy.

Find out more about the tests.

Tours

As well as the skills sessions it's well worth booking onto one of our of student led tours of the campus and our accommodation. You can hear firsthand from our students about what it's like living and studying here and ask them any questions you might have about being a student at Sheffield Hallam.

What will I see on the tour?

The campus tour will include all of the main areas of the campus, including the learning centre, gym, students' union, catering outlets, lecture theatres and classrooms. You will be met by a student ambassador wearing a blue t-shirt at the meeting points below.

Please arrive at least five minutes before your tour starts. We aim to start on time and if you're late we may not be able to accommodate you.

On the accommodation tour you will be shown an example of one of our wide range of residences. On the way there and back the ambassador will point out the location of other accommodation complexes, but we can't show you around more than one. You can see our full range of residences online. The tours are not specific to a particular course. If you want to speak to staff and students from the course you're interested in, come to an open day.
