8 things to do before you get here

You’ll need to print out your pre-enrolment summary. Bring it with you to your enrolment, you'll find out when this is at your course induction.

1. Apply for student finance

Apply to Student Finance England for a loan to cover your tuition fees and a maintenance loan to assist with living costs such as accommodation, food, travel and course materials. The amount of funding you can receive for your maintenance loan depends on your individual circumstances. It can take up to six weeks to process your application.

2. Pre-enrol online

Look out for an email about three weeks before you arrive, which will tell you what to do. If you don’t receive it, email webenrolhelp@shu.ac.uk You’ll need to print out your pre-enrolment summary and bring it with you.

3. Get your health checks and vaccinations

Book an appointment at your doctor to have your two MMRs and MenACWY vaccines, and if you’re moving to Sheffield, get a check-up at your dentist before you get here too.

If you're moving to Sheffield, register with our medical centre online. If you’re staying at home, you can choose to register with us or stay with your own surgery.

Once you’ve enrolled you can go to the medical centre to find out what to do in an emergency and where to go if you feel unwell on campus. You can also get your vaccinations if you haven't already had them.

4. If you're moving into halls, complete the SHUstart programme

Staying in University accommodation? Log on to SHUstart once you have accepted your room offer to find everything you need to know about moving in. You'll receive more information about SHUstart before you arrive, so keep an eye on your emails.

5. Download the SHUgo app

The app has everything you'll need at university, including campus maps, timetables and who to contact. Download SHUgo from the App Store or alternatively download the SHUgo app from Google Play.

6. Follow Hallam Help on Twitter

Follow Hallam Help for tips on your first few weeks, and tweet or DM them for impartial help, advice and support. They respond 9am–5pm, Monday to Friday.

7. Register for societies and sports clubs

Take a look at the selection of societies in the Students' Union – they can send you more information before you get here through their social media channels or by email. See all our societies.
