8 things to do before you get here
We can't wait to welcome you to Sheffield Hallam this September!
Due to Covid-19, things may be a little different, but we're committed to providing you with the best student experience in the safest way possible. Here are some ways you can prepare before you join us this autumn.
1. Apply for student finance
Apply to Student Finance England for a loan to cover your tuition fees and a maintenance loan to assist with living costs such as accommodation, food, travel and course materials. The amount of funding you can receive for your maintenance loan depends on your individual circumstances. It can take up to six weeks to process your application.
2. Enrol online
Look out for an email about three weeks before you arrive, which will tell you what to do. If you don’t receive it, email email@example.com
Check here for further pre-enrolment information
3. Get your health checks and vaccinations
Book an appointment at your doctor to have your two MMRs and MenACWY vaccines, and if you’re moving to Sheffield, get a check-up at your dentist before you get here too.
If you're moving to Sheffield, register with our medical centre online. If you’re staying at home, you can choose to register with us or stay with your own surgery.
4. Apply for accommodation
If you haven't already, you can still apply for accommodation - we offer lots of different options across a range of budgets. You can view our halls and find out how to apply on our accommodation pages.
5. Put some money on your SHUcard
When you've enrolled you'll receive your SHUcard, which can be used to pay for things around campus. You can load money onto it before you get here, and your family can top it up for you while you’re here. Look out for an email about your SHUcard before you arrive and see shu.ac.uk/shucard
6. Complete your Hallam Welcome Module
You will receive an email containing an interactive module with information on our services and support, including wellbeing, finance and academic skills, as well as information about your accommodation and how your arrival will work. There are also special offers you can use on campus when you finish it.
7. Register for societies and sports clubs
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, some societies have found other ways to meet, connect and communicate with their members. This includes online meet-ups, social media pages and other ways of getting involved. There's something for everyone, from Disney appreciation to tea drinking! See all our societies.
We also have 40 sports clubs here at Sheffield Hallam to suit a range of interests. See all our sports clubs.
