Money saving tips

Smart spending is the key to making your uni budget go further.

First of all, make the most of student discounts and free or cheap uni services. You might be surprised at how much is available.

Second, try bringing down your day-to-day spending. Check the Blackbullion courses and articles below for some practical tips.

Student discounts

Your SHUcard and NUS card will get you lots of discounts with local businesses and big national ones. Sign up to other schemes like Unidays and TOTUM for even more offers.

If you use buses or trams to get around the city, check Travel South Yorkshire's student tickets and passes. And get a 16–25 Railcard if you commute to uni by train. You can get these free with some student bank accounts.

Course materials and software

Check our Library Gateway before buying books or other study material. You might be able to borrow them for free.

As a Hallam student, you have access to Office 365 Education for free. This includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote and Microsoft Teams. Just use your university email address to sign in.

AppsAnywhere also provides you with all the university software apps. You can stream these rather than having to install each application.
