How does the past relate to the present? On our history courses you'll engage with the ideas and events that have shaped the modern world, with a particular focus on British, European and global history in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Learning from published experts, you'll explore a variety of theoretical perspectives and themes, including nationalism, imperialism, race, gender, orientalism, and globalisation.

As well as learning history through lectures and seminars, you'll also learn on field trips to places such as Manchester People's History Museum and the Museum of London. We also give you access to extensive archives and academic digital collections, and offer an optional work placement as part of our undergraduate programmes.
