Research

Our department has two research and scholarship groups - Psychology and Sociology, and Politics and Policy.

We conduct research into topics including

  • health and wellbeing
  • behaviour change
  • language
  • education
  • the brain and cognition
  • heritage studies
  • equality and social inclusion
  • gender and sexualities
  • ethnicity and religion
  • social policy

45% of our psychology research was recognised as internationally excellent or internationally recognised in the most recent Research Assessment Exercise.

Our researchers work collaboratively both across the University and externally with universities, organisations and businesses. We currently have links with the Universities of York, Sheffield and Plymouth, the Open University, regional health trusts, charities and a number of overseas universities (for example in Australia and Canada).
