Using state-of-the-art equipment, our courses are delivered in sport facilities on campus and across the city, including the English Institute of Sport, Sheffield (EISS), a world class facility used by many of the UK’s elite athletes and teams.  Specialist teaching and research is undertaken within sport and exercise science laboratories, which gives our students the opportunities to gain applied ‘hands on’ experience.  These include physiology, biomechanics and strength & conditioning labs, a physical activity suite, dance studio, performance analysis suite, isokinetic dynamometry, environmental chamber, and sport psychology consultation rooms.   Students have the use of designated pool access at Ponds Forge International Swimming Arena and the indoor athletic facilities at EISS. 

Sheffield is known as the ‘outdoor city’ and has some of the most beautiful, natural green space within the city and is on the doorstep of the Peak District National Park, the most visited park in the UK.  Students have the opportunity to experience this landscape and as part of their programmes, undertake outdoor activities including water sports. 

The university also offers a vibrant sport community, with a diverse range of clubs and performance teams, including comprehensive support for student athletes.  Our clubs offer you the chance to play for leisure and competitively in university sport leagues and tournaments, as well as our annual Varsity competition, which is an annual event where students from both Sheffield Hallam and the University of Sheffield compete over many different sports.  We have 40 student led sport clubs and have entered over 65 teams into the British Universities and Colleges (BUCS) Sport league programme.  Our Performance Athlete Support Programme (PASP) allows talented student athletes to balance university life whilst achieving their sport potential.  A generous support package is available for any students that meet performance scholarship criteria.
