Beatrice Fairley MSc, PgCert, FHEA

Senior Lecturer

Summary

As a senior lecturer within the Built Environment subject group I teach and support students from first year undergraduate to postgraduate level.

About

I've worked at Sheffield Hallam since 2016. I came into education from industry following 9 years as a Retail Agent specialising in Shopping Centre Leasing. During that time I had day to day responsibility for a number of shopping centre instructions for major landlords including LaSalle Investment Management; Aberdeen Asset Management; Aviva Investors and British Land. Though based in London, I leased property throughout England and Wales. I worked closely with my clients on asset management initiatives, advising on leasing strategy and tenant mix strategy for existing schemes, extensions and redevelopments. I also completed rent reviews, lease renewals and regears for my landlord clients and advised retailer clients on their acquisition strategy.

Prior to this I was part of an award-winning local authority housing team in North Yorkshire. I devised and implemented the homelessness strategy, dealt with legal challenges relating to homelessness duties and managed residential assets. My team provided mentoring for other Local Authorities looking to transform their housing and homelessness services.

Teaching

I teach Real Estate professional practice/ professional development and valuation at undergraduate and postgraduate level. I also support student research projects. I'm particularly interested in how the retail property landscape has shifted in recent decades and how property owners and professionals can adapt.

Beatrice teaches on the Real Estate BSc/MSc and Business Property Management BSc including Real Estate Professional Development, Real Estate Professional Studies, Real Estate Investment and Valuation and Dissertation modules.
